Primary tabs

Description:

On Thursday 17 July Diego Varela Pedreira participated in a roundtable discussion entitled 'A Eurosceptic European Parliament: Where do we go from here?' in a seminar on 'Civic nationalism and the future of European identity' organised by the European Liberal Forum and Fundació CatDem in Barcelona. The CatDem Foundation has been working over last two years on the multiannual project of the ELF about nationalism and populism in Europe. They organized two seminars. The first one was in 2012, about populist vs cosmopolitan nationalism and its implications for a liberal Europe from a theoretical perspective. The second seminar was in October 2013, and analysed the effects of the economic crisis on nationalism and the rise of populism. This is the third and final seminar of the three-year programme that aims at discussing the best approaches to strengthen the European Union and combat populisms and Euroscepticism by building a European identity.
